Named after Sandord Orchards' large oak vat in which they age their best vintage ciders. Bold and satisfying with notes of Seville orange, plum and baked apple, rich and rewarding with a long, warming finish. A great match for gamey meats and Sunday roasts. The main apple varieites used are Yarlington Mill, Dabinett and Tremletts Bitter.
Awarded Gold and Trophy at the 2023 International Cider Challenge, Gold at Taste of the West 2023 and 2024 and Gold at the World Cider Awards 2021.
Featured in the Oct 2023 edition of The Observer’s Food Monthly magazine. The Ciderologist, Gabe Cook, awarded it 5 stars out of 5 in a blind tasting, commenting:' Nutty, earthy, muscovado sugar – this grows. Smooth and weighty; dark, brooding; intense fruits and so many spices. To have that much intensity and character, that is a cider for grownups.'
Sandford Orchards are based in Credition in Mid Devon, and housed in the oldest working cider mill in the country which Sandford have breathed new life into. Their ciders are made from fresh apple juice, pressed from locally sourced cider apples. Sandford Orchards consistently win prizes for their Ciders at international and national cider competitions.
